Questions
Frequently asked.
Is Courtwise a firm of solicitors?
No. Courtwise Legal Guidance is an independent paralegal, legal support and business advisory practice. We are not a solicitors’ firm and are not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Where a matter needs a reserved legal activity or specialist regulated advice, we explain the limits and help you consider an appropriately authorised professional.
How does a consultation work?
Consultations take place by secure video, booked online. Choose a length, pick a day and time, and tell us a little about your matter. The video room opens 10 minutes before your start time and closes automatically at the end of the time you booked.
What does a consultation cost?
A 15-minute introductory call is free for first-time clients. Paid consultations are £1 a minute on weekdays for sessions that finish by 17:00: 30 minutes is £30, 45 minutes is £45 and an hour is £60. Weekday evening and Saturday appointments cost 30% more: 30 minutes is £39, 45 minutes is £58.50 and an hour is £78. Wider work is quoted individually with a written scope before anything starts. Can I get more time if the call runs over?
Calls end at the booked time so every client gets the time they paid for and the diary stays on schedule. You will see a one-minute warning on screen. If you need longer, book a further session, or choose a longer slot from the start.
Can you help me represent myself in court?
Yes. We support litigants in person with organising evidence, drafting correspondence, witness statements and chronologies, understanding procedural documents, compiling bundles and preparing for hearings. McKenzie Friend assistance is subject to the court’s rules and permission where required. Courtwise does not conduct litigation or exercise reserved rights of audience.
Do you help with employment tribunals?
We support employees and employers with tribunal paperwork, evidence, schedules of loss, witness statements and hearing preparation. Non-lawyer representation may be available in employment tribunals, subject to the applicable rules and directions. Each instruction is assessed individually.
Can you find me a barrister?
We can help prepare your case papers and identify independent public-access barristers where appropriate. A barrister’s acceptance of instructions, fees and professional responsibilities are governed by their own terms.
Should I send my documents before the call?
Please don’t upload or email sensitive documents until we ask for them. We first check there is no conflict of interest and agree how documents will be shared securely. Have your key papers to hand during the call instead.
Do you work with solicitors’ firms?
Yes. We provide outsourced drafting, legal research, chronologies, disclosure schedules, hearing bundles and case progression within an agreed scope. Work is returned to the instructing firm for review and approval, and the firm retains responsibility for supervision and regulatory compliance.
Where are you based, and who do you help?
Courtwise is remote-first and works with individuals, solicitors’ firms and businesses across England and Wales, by appointment.
